LYNNFIELD — The Select Board interviewed and appointed resident Dave Castellarin to the Finance Committee to replace Alexis Leahy, who resigned from her position upon being elected to the Select Board.
Castellarin spoke to the board about his municipal career at the Division of Local Services under the state Department of Revenue.
“I took care of 20 cities and towns and all the municipal finance,” Castellarin said. “Setting tax rates, setting balance sheets, things like that.”
Castellarin also worked as town accountant for Winthrop and Stoneham and assistant town administrator for Swampscott. He is now the finance director for Bedford.
“So 34 years of that,” Castellarin said.
Select Board Chair Dick Dalton said that Town Accountant Julie McCarthy brought Castellarin’s name forward.
Select Board Vice Chair Phil Crawford thanked Castellarin for stepping forward to volunteer his time for the board.
“It’s an important position, and I don’t think I’ve seen a resume that is more qualified to be on the Finance Committee than yours,” Crawford said.
Leahy said that Castellarin’s municipal background will be useful to the committee.
“I don’t know that there is an individual right now that has that similar background, so I think that would bring something that’s not there currently,” Leahy said.
Dalton clarified that the board is still receiving applications to replace Chris Caprio when his term ends on June 30. Letters of interest and resumes can be sent to Assistant Town Administrator Bob Curtin at [email protected].
