The Lynn English boys tennis team sported a 6-6 record by the end of last week, punching the Bulldogs’ ticket to the Division 1 state tournament behind coach Kerry King.
No. 36 English faced a tough test in Tuesday’s preliminary round against No. 29 Wachusett Regional, which had seven wins under its belt by game time.
Despite a strong effort from the Bulldogs, they fell, 5-0, at Shepherd Hill Regional High School.
The defeat brought an end to their season.
“It was a terrific season for the team,” King said. “We had great senior leadership as well as a couple of first-year players this year who made big contributions.”
King also highlighted a few of his players, Eric Salazar and Dabriel Rojas, for playing strong games on Tuesday.
English checked out at 6-7, while Wachusett advanced to Round of 32 where it will face No. 4 Lexington – a program that finished the regular season with a 19-1 record, and trails only St. John’s Prep (1), Concord-Carlisle (2), and Newton North (3) in the seedings.
