The No. 12 Swampscott girls lacrosse team advances to the Round of 16 after a big win against No. 21 Oakmont Regional. The Big Blue won 13-3 and never let Oakmont Regional get settled.
Swampscott got out to a rapid start going up 4-0 in the first quarter before adding three more goals to lead 7-1 at the break.
In the second half, Swampscott continued to find space in Oakmont Regional’s defense, adding three more goals in the third quarter and another three in the fourth.
The Big Blue got big performances from Victoria Pierro (3 goals, 2 assists), Avery Laundry (3 goals, 1 assist), and Coco Clopton (2 goals, 3 assists). On defense, Daniela Bliss and Maxine Wald made life difficult for Oakmont Regional.
Lilah Caplan made seven saves in net.
No. 12 Swampscott will travel to No. 5 Sandwich with the day and time TBD.
BOYS LACROSSE
No. 4 Lynnfield 19
No. 29 Triton 8
The No. 4 Pioneers showed why they are considered one of the favorites for the Division 4 title with a comprehensive win over No. 29 Triton.
Lynnfield led 12-4 at halftime and outscored Triton 7-4 in the second half.
Despite winning comfortably, Lynnfield coach Pat Lamusta praised the offense of Triton’s and complimented his defenders.
“They had a bunch of kids who can shoot,” head coach Pat Lamusta said. “So overall, while we did have a couple of penalties, we were happy with the way the defense played. After Jake Connell came out with an injury, Brendan Driscoll and Gabe Schumacher really stepped up to fill that role.”
On offense, Will Norton registered his 100th career point in the win after his six-goal display.
No. 4 Lynnfield will look to avenge its early season loss when it welcomes No. 13 Swampscott in the Round of 16 with the day and time TBD.
BOYS TENNIS
No. 3 Swampscott 3
No. 14 Wilmington
After a close match that came down to the final game, the Big Blue fought their way into the Elite 8.
First singles, Charles Schepens, won 6-1, 6-0 over Wilmington’s Anuj Gandhi. First doubles Trevor Talebian and Nick Custer won their respective match 6-4 6-1.
With the match tied 2-2, it came down to second doubles.
The duo of Julian Flacke and Lucas Bereaud lost the first set 4-6, but never wavered. They battled back to force a third set winning the second set 6-4.
In the third set, Flacke and Bereaud kept the pressure on and defeated Wilmington’s duo 6-4 to clinch the Big Blue’s berth into the Elite 8.
No. 3 Swampscott will welcome Northeastern Conference rival No. 6 Gloucester on Wednesday with the match scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
No. 12 Hopkinton 3
No. 5 Marblehead 2
Although it was a close match, Marblehead couldn’t get it done against a talented Hopkinton side.
The Marblehead wins came from first and second singles.
First singles Mika Garber beat Joe Krattenmaker 6-0, 6-3. Garber, who’s played first singles since he was a freshman, closes his Marblehead career with an emphatic victory.
In second singles, Etan Farfel beat junior Rishit Shekhar 6-3, 6-3.
Despite the loss, head coach Elisabeth Foukal was proud of the team.
“I am so proud of how our boys competed and played with excellent sportsmanship; at one point the ball bounced on a dead spot and our first doubles team offered to replay the point,” Foukal said. “This is what tennis is all about.”
Volleyball
No. 3 Wayland 3
No. 19 Lynn Classical 0
The road for the Lynn Classical volleyball team ends in the Sweet 16 losing to No. 3 Wayland (12-25, 12-25, 20-25).
Classical’s Kenzel Lantano recorded 18 assists, while Long Pham had 10 digs.
“Heading to Wayland we knew it was going to be a difficult challenge. It was a game that our best players were going to have to play their best if we hoped to advance. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen tonight,” Head coach Chris LeBlanc said. “The boys fought hard but at the end of the day tonight showed us how far we’ve come in two short years, but also how far we still have to go if we hope to go farther in the tournament in future years.”
“Coach Martin, Coach Robbins, and I could not be prouder of all the hard work the boys have put in this season,” LeBlanc said.
