LYNN — North Shore Community College President Dr. William Heineman joined Attorney Jim Carrigan’s LCTV show, “The American Dream,” this week to discuss the educational opportunities that are available for students from Lynn at the school.
The show is “designed to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how public and private policy is developed,” according to Carrigan.
During the show, which ran for slightly less than half an hour, Dr. Heineman and Carrigan talked about how students from the city can benefit from the college’s financial-aid opportunities, scholarships, food pantry, and its new program offering free tuition for students older than 25 years old who do not have degrees.
The two also talked about the economic assistance that is generated by NSCC’s presence in the city, and Dr. Heineman said that the college, which is one of the biggest employers in the city, employs around 300 people in Lynn.
“The other thing about a college is it tends to generate other types of activity in a community, whether that’s intellectual opportunity or economic activity,” Dr. Heineman said. “Certainly, lots of conversations going on with the mayor and his team about economic development and workforce development in the city, and it just gives us an opportunity to be where the action is.”
The show airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays at 7 a.m. on Comcast Channel 3 and Verizon Channel 38. It can also be watched online at www.Lynntv.org.
