BOSTON — Dana Loder, 30, of Lynnfield, was arrested Monday night at Boston Common after officers heard gunshots from the area, according to a press release from the Boston Police Department.
The officers assigned to District A-1 (Downton) also recovered a firearm after arriving on the scene just after 10 p.m., according to the release.
Loder is facing charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license (second offense), carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a Class B drug (crack cocaine) and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
According to the department, officers patrolling the area of Tremont Street and Winter Street heard gunshots coming from inside Boston Common and observed multiple people running in various directions from the sound of shots. The officers exited their vehicle and approached the gunshots to investigate.
The officers observed a “suspicious person” running away from the shots and ordered him to stop. During a foot chase with the suspect, the officers “observed the suspect discard a firearm onto the ground while running,” according to the press release.
The suspect, eventually identified as Loder, was apprehended near 131 Tremont St., resulting in his arrest and the recovery of a firearm believed to be used in the shooting, according to police.
Shortly after Loder’s arrest, an unnamed victim was discovered inside the common with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Boston Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, the press release stated.
Loder lives at 429 Chestnut St. in Lynnfield, according to the town’s 2023 street listing report.
The Lynnfield Police Department was not involved with the incident, Lynnfield Police Chief Nick Secatore said.
