Morgan Yeo sets goals as new Peabody Institute Library director

PEABODY — After a month on the job, longtime resident Morgan Yeo has established herself as the new director of the Peabody Institute Library by setting goals for the future.

Yeo worked as the head of public services and then the assistant director for Abbot Public Library in Marblehead before stepping into her new position.

“I just felt like it was my dream job to be back in the community I’m from, to reconnect with all the organizations and groups that I was either once a part of or aspire to be a part of,” she said. “I just think that Peabody itself does a great job at helping so many different people in the community.”

As the director of the library, Yeo said her role is to connect with her staff and the city’s residents by listening to their needs and providing them with opportunities and services, both inside and outside of the library.

She said during her first month in the role, her goal was to “create an environment of open communication” with the library’s staff and to prepare for the end of this fiscal year and next fiscal year’s budget.

Yeo said two programs she hopes to establish in the upcoming year are career support services and providing a space to support veterans.

As part of the second goal, she said she envisions a group that could support veterans by offering a space for them to meet one another and providing them with recommended readings.

Her goal for career support services is to assist mostly adults with job applications and resume-building. However, she said the program would be available for all ages.

Yeo said the library is also in the process of hiring more summer interns and searching for a new assistant director.
