LYNN — A 17-year-old male gunshot victim was pronounced dead after being transported to Salem Hospital from the area of Federal Street in Lynn Saturday night, according to a press release from the Lynn Police Department.
At approximately 9:09 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area and located the victim in a crashed motor vehicle, according to the release.
The shooting took place in the area of 40 Federal Street near the Market Basket, the Essex District Attorney’s office stated.
Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said, one of the gunshots “fatally struck” the occupant of the vehicle, which then rolled into bushes in a ravine.
The case is currently under investigation, but, “initial investigative details indicate that this was not a random act,” the Lynn Police Department said.
Police Chief Chris Reddy stated, “The Lynn Police Department, our partners from the Massachusetts State Police and the Office of District Attorney Paul Tucker, are committed to pursuing every lead in this investigation and we will not stop until those responsible for this outrageous act of gun violence are held accountable.”
“This is another example of the devastating impact of gun violence on the lives of our young people,” Tucker said. “Our hearts are with the family of the victim. We will work diligently to achieve justice in this case on their behalf.”
