LYNN — The Mutt Society teamed up with Pathways Inc. to gift more than 140 bikes to the children of Pathways students in the city.

“Our organization’s whole mission is getting kids on bikes for health, freedom, and transportation,” Mutt Society co-founder Trent Sanders said.

The nonprofit is constantly fundraising to be able to provide bicycles to kids who need them throughout New England, Sanders said.

The Mutt Society started its 100 Kids on Bikes initiative in Lynn in 2022.

“There’s just a really amazing transformation you see in a child when they see that they’re going to own their first bike, whether they’re 3 years old or 18 years old,” Sanders said.

Along with gifting bikes across New England, the Mutt Society volunteers to rebuild trails, partners with other programs, and is planning to travel internationally to continue its mission overseas.

All in all, Sanders said the bike drive for children of students at Pathways, an adult-education program in the city, was a success.

“We didn’t have any sad kids, we distributed 140 or so bikes, and just got to kind of reignite the fact that humanity is still pretty solid,” Sanders said.

The Mutt Society’s mission is to provide bicycles to kids to empower and elevate them.
