LYNN — North Shore Community College has announced that Lt. Kevin Marshall, of Marblehead, has been promoted to deputy chief of the college’s Campus Police Department.
Marshall has been a member of the department since 2022, and he has served as a lieutenant and community resource officer there.
“Just in these past two years, it’s been really nice to build relationships both professionally and outside of work, and everyone has been genuinely appreciative of me, and I’m so thankful and grateful to be here,” Marshall said.
Before joining NSCC, Marshall was a 20-year veteran of the Nantucket Police Department, where he developed and oversaw a community-service unit that focused on suicide prevention and mental health.
Marshall said that the breadth of his experience has prepared him for this position.
“I’ve been a police officer since 1998. Going up the ranks, I’ve been involved with as much as I can, as far as extra duties. I think a combination of everything helps the person when they get in a new leadership position,” he said.
He received a citation from the state Senate for leadership in suicide prevention in 2018. Marshall is certified by Crisis Intervention Team International and has a master’s in criminal justice and police science from Northeastern University.
“Kevin is a veteran leader with the experience and skills the role demands. He is detail-oriented, innovative, and has a great track record for getting things done,” NSCC Police Chief David Cook said. “In his new role, his primary responsibilities will be to support the daily operations and administrative responsibilities of the police department. He will also serve as accreditation manager for the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission accreditation process, a program that focuses on professional standards that provide the agency with best practices related to life, health, and safety procedures.”
“I think being in the accreditation process truly is what will help me in this position understand how the department is running. Just the ins and outs of how an agency is properly managed to run and the expectations,” Marshall said. “I am honored to advance with the college and look forward to collaborating with the chief on campus, safety, efficient operations, and community engagement.”
Marshall said one of the many goals he hopes to accomplish in his new position is increasing community engagement.
A swearing-in ceremony will be held to celebrate Marshall’s promotion and recognize recent new hires in the department, although the date of the ceremony has not yet been determined.
