LYNN — If you were feeling a little creeped out on Thursday, it might be because the production crew for “The Walking Dead: Dead City” was downtown.
Crew trucks lined the sides of Spring Street as people filtered in and out of the back of the Galleries at LynnArts, where the set was located. Parking restrictions were enforced on Union Street, Exchange Street, and Spring Street throughout the week to prepare for the production.
Although the production team kept details of the show under wraps to avoid spoiling the upcoming second season, a crew member said they chose to film at the Galleries at LynnArts because of its “rare” spiral stairwell.
Later in the day, the team moved to Hanson Street, where the harbor walk is being developed, to film by the coast.
According to the crew member, the production teamed up with Jimmy Walsh’s Deep Sea Fishing to use Walsh’s boat for a scene that takes place on the ocean between New York and New Jersey.
The crew member said filming for the series, set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan, has taken place entirely across Massachusetts, transforming the Commonwealth into the Big Apple. The crew has already shut down streets in Worcester, Attleboro, Lowell, and Boston.
The first season of the series followed Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan, as she searched for her kidnapped son, Hershel. She was forced to rely on Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who killed her husband in the original series, for assistance. The most recent teaser trailer, which was released in July 2023, was mysterious, but confirmed that actors from the first season will return for the second.
The scenes filmed in Lynn are expected to appear in an episode of the second season, which will premiere on AMC Plus in 2025.
