LYNN — U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton attended the “Battle of the Badges” on Sunday, a charity softball game at Fraser Field between the Lynn Police Department and Lynn Fire Department.
Team Police defeated Team Fire, 12-5 (full game coverage on B1), with fans gathered around the ballpark.
Deaton lives in Swansea with campaign headquarters in Woburn. He said Lynn has a higher crime rate and has been impacted by immigration, and “it’s imperative that we support local law enforcement (and) first responders.” Deaton is a Republican challenging Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren. The 2024 Senate election in Massachusetts will be held on November 5. Primary elections will take place on September 3.
Deaton, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, said, “People who serve in the uniform and serve for the public good are close to my heart.”
Originally from Highland Park, Michigan, he said he believes some communities get more attention than others, but all communities in the Commonwealth are important to him.
“Every person in Lynn has the same vote as any other person. No matter what your income level is, no matter what your background is,” Deaton said. “I think Lynn is just as important as any other community in the state.”
He said after serving in the Marine Corps, he spent more than 20 years as a lawyer defending mesothelioma and cancer victims.
“I’ve been representing the working class for the last two decades and I plan to do it when I’m a U.S. Senator as well,” Deaton said.
