LYNN — The Greater Lynn Babe Ruth 15/16-year-old All-Stars defeated Taunton, 5-4, at Fraser Field to reserve their spot in Saturday’s state championship game.

But, it wasn’t easy for manager Sam Ohannesian and company.

Lynn gave up a run in the top of the first, but came right back to tie it, 1-1, with an RBI single from Maxwell Parent.

And it only got better from there. Next thing you knew, it was 5-1 in the sixth inning. Gavin Collins’ timely RBI single was one of the big highlights.

Taunton stirred trouble, however, to get within one. Trailing, 5-4, it had a baserunner on second with two outs late, but Jack Spates made a game-saving, diving catch to keep Lynn on top.

From there, Lynn held on to fight for all of the Saturday marbles. That one will be at 3 p.m. against Plymouth at Garvey Park in Dorchester.

Jake Peterson got the start for the hosts, pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing just four hits, one earned run, and two walks. He also punched out six Taunton batters. Braeden Ohannesian pitched in relief, going 1 1/3 innings and allowing zero hits and runs.
