MARBLEHEAD — The School Committee Collective Bargaining Subcommittee met in preparation for its next bargaining session on Tuesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. with the Marblehead Education Association.
This session’s “purpose was to discuss strategy with respect to and in preparation for collective bargaining with the MEA,” School Committee Chair and Subcommittee Chair Jenn Schaeffner said.
Schaeffner and fellow Subcommittee Chair Sarah Fox attended the meeting with members of the administration and school counsel.
The subcommittee had a “productive meeting” with the union on June 11, according to a previous press release from the subcommittee.
“Both parties agreed there is room for improvement to benefit some students requiring additional supports. The subcommittee and union also exchanged wage proposals,” the release reads. “The union presented a wage proposal that included a 40% wage increase over three years for members of the Unit A and a 50% wage increase for all other units over three years. Today’s bargaining session came to a close after both parties agreed to schedule multiple bargaining sessions over the summer. The subcommittee continues to be open to scheduling more dates in hopes of coming to an agreement for all employees.”
The School Committee and representatives of the MEA did not come to a contract agreement at their sixth bargaining session on June 18.
On the agenda for the July 16 meeting is a discussion of strategy in preparation for collective bargaining with the MEA Unit A, unit tutors, unit paraprofessionals, unit permanent substitutes, and unit custodians.
The July 16 meeting will be held at the Lucretia and Joseph Brown School’s library at 42 Baldwin Road.
