You know what I’ve been thinking? He’s from Georgia and suits up for the Florida Gators, but the impact Kyle Jones has had on the North Shore has been nothing short of spectacular.
The Navigators’ center fielder has been connecting on all cylinders this past week, which saw a four-game hitting streak, a five-RBI game, and a .357 batting average across seven days.
Against Danbury, Mystic, and Vermont, Jones ripped hits in all three games, but a road game against Bristol is when he made his mark. The leadoff man went 3-for-5 with five RBI and a run. And in the sixth inning, he contributed two-RBI singles.
It’s been an up-and-down season for the Navs with an 11-15 record (by press time). That said, if Jones and company keep hitting the ball, don’t be shocked if they deliver a late-season surge.
Let’s talk about Jones for a moment, shall we? He committed to Florida last month. Before then, with Stetson University, he was named ASUN Freshman of the Year and a second-team freshman All-American. He batted .355 with five home runs, 32 RBI, 23 stolen bases and a .459 on-base percentage in his first year at the college level.
All that said, it looks like Navs Nation has been enjoying its newfound star. Let’s see what Jones and company have in store with 16 games remaining this summer.
Kyle, good week.
