LYNN — The Belden Bly Bridge will open for one-lane traffic in early 2025, according to Massachusetts Department of Transportation Communications Project Manager Marshall Hook.

“That allows us to take down the temporary bridge, which we need to do to finish construction of the bridge,” Hook said.

The drawbridge, which connects the city to Saugus, will be open for full-lane traffic by the end of 2025, Hook added.

Hook said the contract for the bridge’s construction will remain open until 2027, but construction on the bridge is expected to be completed in 2026.

The bridge was reopened to marine vessels in May.

Hook said that the bridge’s retaining walls and the Lynn side’s approach span still need to be completed, and testing needs to be conducted on the bridge.

“MassDOT is very grateful to both Lynn and Saugus and all the people in both those communities for working with us,” Hook said. “I know we look forward to getting this bridge open for the people who want to use it.”
