Nothing like summertime running in Lynn

LYNN — The Lynn Woods Summer Running Series began May 29 and occurs every Wednesday until September 25. This week saw 161 individuals compete.

The 2.2-mile race, commonly known as the “Goat Path,” saw three teenagers conquer the course with impressive times.

Leading the way was Lynn’s Franklin Maldonado, who ran a 14:51 at 16 years old. Then, Thomas Williamson of Danvers finished in 16:16, narrowly beating out Liam Carmody, also of Lynn, who finished third with a 16:17.

Winthrop’s Cormac MacPhail placed fourth (17:24) with Lynn’s Brayan Alvarez finishing fifth in 17:38.

Then, there was the 3.87-mile course. A debut runner claimed first in Cooper Downey (Manchester, NH), finishing in 25:49. Next was Chris Chapruet of Saugus (25:52), followed by Tommy Fogarty of Peabody (25:55) to round out the top-three finishers.

Lynn’s Nakri Dao (27:25) was the first Lynner to cross the finish line. Speaking of Lynn, it had a total of 35 representatives across the 74-runner pool.

Lynn also had four runners place in the top 10. After Dao, Edgar Ortega (27:38) came in seventh, followed by Liban Abdikadir (27:57) in eighth and Peter Gwilliam (28:53) in 10th.

It wasn’t just teenagers and adults getting their shoes worn down, however, as kids got involved in the action, too. The 1.59-mile race saw Liam Fay (13:02) claim first and Donald Fay (13:03) finish second. Both Liam and Donald hail from Billerica.

After the Fay family took the top two spots, there was a sea of Lynnfield (14 total runners) that followed. Ellie Ferguson (13:07), MacKenzie Beal (14:04), Marne Capolupo (14:08), and Emily Conlon (14:08) all claimed the next four spots.

Peabody’s Nikola Gilmore (14:23) was right in the middle of it, but Lynnfield kept up its pace with Emma Ferguson (15:45) and Julia Hutter (15:45) rounding out the top nine. If you are interested in joining the series, go to www.lwrun.org for more information.
