Saugus’ Raising Cane’s location approved for new signage

SAUGUS — The highly anticipated Raising Cane’s location in town has been approved for additional signage.

At a Board of Appeals meeting, Attorney Richard Magnan, representing the restaurant alongside Sarah Holmes, the property-development coordinator for Raising Cane’s, appeared before the board to request permission for a variance regarding proposed signage on the property.

Magnan said the restaurant, construction of which had stalled due to holdups with National Grid, is now back on track.

The sign, which would face Route 1, would be an additional piece of signage, which the town’s bylaws compel applicants to request permission for from the board.

“Bylaw allows a wall sign by right based upon certain dimensional requirements based upon the gross square foot area of that wall, and a percentage of that be 15%,” Magnan said.

Magnan said that the sign would only measure 17.57 square feet and read “One Love,” a phrase that Magnan says appears on many Raising Cane’s restaurants to affirm the company’s love for chicken.

“I would suggest to you that that, combined with the other sign, is way below the maximum allowable area of a single wall sign,” Magnan said.

The variance was approved unanimously by a vote of 4-0.

The restaurant, which was approved for a drive-thru in December, is expected to open in early 2025, according to Holmes.
