Up-and-down weekend for Lynn Babe Ruthers

After Friday morning’s win against Maine to kick off Regionals, the Lynn Babe Ruth 15/16-year-old All-Stars faced two more weekend tests.

They took care of Vermont with ease, 11-0, on Saturday to continue the stretch in Augusta, Maine. Braeden Ohannesian (4 IP) earned the win, giving up four hits and zero runs, striking out four and walking one.

He helped his own cause with a hit, offensively.

Speaking of hits, there were plenty. Gavin Collins, Maxwell Parent, Jake Peterson, Gilbert Peralta, and Rowan Merryman each collected hits for Lynn, with Parent and Devin Duval driving in two runs apiece.

But the second inning – that’s when the magic happened. Lynn plated nine in the inning, with Mark Walsh and Kalen Huddle getting involved in the fun, too.

Lynn added to its lead in the third after Collin Hart reached on an infield hit and later scored.

On to Sunday. With momentum on their side, the Babe Ruthers ran into trouble against New Hampshire, falling 10-4 to close out the weekend.

Walsh and Peralta each went home with two more hits, while Brennan Malloy (RBI), Jared Burke, and Boo DiSaia added three more, but to no avail.

Lynn finished pool play with a 2-1 record and clinched the top seed in its bracket. The team earned a first-round bye, and returns to action Tuesday morning in the semifinals (10 a.m.).
