You know what I’ve been thinking? Despite falling short in the semifinals of the Regional Tournament, the Lynn Babe Ruth 15/16-year-old All-Stars made their city proud.
It was oh so close, too. The Ruthers lost, 4-2, to Pittsfield in a game that got away from them early. They never quit, however, and added two late runs. Brennan Malloy punched out two batters across 3 2/3 innings to lead the effort.
But this past weekend is when Lynn made its noise – loudly, to the rest of the region. The team went 2-1 in pool play and clinched the top seed in its bracket.
A happy Friday came with a 7-1 victory against Maine. Jake Peterson earned the win, allowing one hit and one run across six innings, striking out nine and walking five. Devin Duval led the offensive charge, batting 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs.
“Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks along with seven hits for the game,” said Lynn manager Sam Ohannesian.
Saturday was more of the same. All Lynn did was defeat Vermont with ease, 11-0. Braeden Ohannesian (4 IP) caught eyes on the bump, giving up four hits and zero runs, striking out four and walking just one.
The game-changer was the second inning, when Lynn plated nine runs to put the pressure on.
To the Babe Ruth All-Stars, good week – and summer.
