SAUGUS — A 17-year-old allegedly involved in an armed carjacking in Cambridge was arrested on Route 1 in a car reported stolen in the parking lot of Harbor Freight Tools at 682 Broadway on Wednesday morning.

The Cambridge Police Department put out a Be On the Lookout notification to surrounding areas after an armed carjacking Tuesday night, which included a brief description and the registration number of the vehicle, a white Honda Accord, Saugus Assistant Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti said.

A spokesperson for the CPD said via email that earlier Tuesday night, the department responded to a call related to another armed carjacking on Marcella Street by three masked individuals. The car was later recovered on Tremont Street after the carjackers had fled it.

The two incidents are believed to be related, and the arrested 17-year-old is believed to have been in possession of stolen materials that were taken from the vehicle.

One officer was treated at a local hospital for an injury that occurred while responding to the incident.

The vehicle believed to be in connection with the carjacking was first observed by Saugus Patrolman William Stamos, Giorgetti said. Afterward, more officers responded to the scene, including from the CPD and State Police.

This matter is still being investigated by authorities.
