Sean Reid gets handful of major endorsements

LYNN — School Committee member Sean Reid, who is running for state representative in the 11th Essex District, has received endorsements from the Mass Retirees, Massachusetts Teachers Association, Massachusetts Nurses Association, Carmen’s Union Local 589, and SMART TD.

“These groups represent workers from a variety of key sectors, from education to health care to transportation,” Reid said. “I am so grateful for their support and we will work collaboratively to address the many challenges that residents across the district are facing.”

The Mass Retirees represent retired Massachusetts public employees of the 104 public retirement systems within the state.

“Sean understands the importance of public service and the need to ensure that public retirees are not forgotten,” said Frank Valeri, president of the Mass Retirees Association. “His experience in the State House will serve the people of the 11th Essex District well.”

Reid is currently a state employee himself, working as legislative director for state Sen. Brendan Crighton at the State House.

The MTA represents 117,000 teachers, faculty, professional staff, and education-support professionals working at public schools and colleges and the MNA represents 23,000 registered nurses and health professionals across the state.

“The professionals that these two unions represent are the backbone of their respective fields. In recent years, they have faced unprecedented obstacles that have many leaving these professions,” Reid said. “We need to do better in supporting them, both for their sake and for the sake of our communities.”

Reid also stated that education has another personal connection to him, with his wife being a special-education teacher in Lynn.

Local 589 represents more than 6,000 MBTA transit professionals.

“Sean has and will continue to fight for every day, working people like our members,” said Jim Evers, president of Local 589. “We are proudly endorsing Sean because he is going to work hard to tackle issues in our industry and beyond.”

SMART TD is also a labor union representing various workers in the transportation sector.

The Reid campaign says it is excited to announce more endorsements in the near future.

The 11th Essex District seat, which comprises West Lynn and Nahant, is currently held by state Rep. Peter Capano, who is not seeking reelection. The primary election is on Sept. 3.
