LYNN — Nope, they’re not done running just yet.

Nearly 60 youngsters participated in meet No. 3 of the Youth Summer Track Meet Series, hosted by Manning Field.

“We were fortunate to interpret the various weather predictions and choose the correct course of action,” said Joe Abelon, who offers timing results. “It was great running weather.”

The entire group took part in the first “mass” relay event, as said by Abelon, with many passing the baton six or seven times. From ages 1 to 15, the day was a success from beginning to end.

In a 30-meter battle of 1-year-old boys, Ottavio Alberti, of Lynn, showed off his acceleration in the final 10 meters, defeating a surprised Romeo Diaz, who hails from Winthrop.

Placing first and second in the girls’ 200-meter race were 8-year-old Fatimah Gibson (Hyde Park), who produced a high-quality time of 33.9, followed by another strong performance from 9-year-old Vivienne Hope (Lynn; 35.5).

High school senior Franklin Maldonado, of Lynn Tech, had a busy evening, placing first in three events: 200-meter (25.4), 400-meter (57.8), 1-mile (6:18.1). Sixteen-year-old sprinter Christian Nunez, of Lynn, added exceptional times in the 50-meter (6.7) and 100-meter (12.8) races.

There are two more sessions, to be held on August 5 and 12 (both Mondays). A fun relay will be offered on both dates.
