Swampscott’s golf team (1-0) shot its way to a season-opening 66.5-5.5 win against the host Saugus Sachems (0-1) at Cedar Glen Golf Course. Tyler Ostroff shot a 35 to lead the Big Blue, followed by Mike Collins’ 37. Sam Moscoso and Will Brogna also played well, according to coach Ron Young. Swampscott welcomes Malden Catholic to Tedesco Country Club at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Marblehead had its moments, but fell to Masconomet at Tedesco Country Club Tuesday evening. Jacob Hershfield (37) and James Bickell (37) were medalists, while Tyler Forbes, Joy Meshulam, and Will Macrina won their matches.
The Magicians (0-1) travel to face Malden Catholic on Thursday in search of their first victory.

Scrimmage No. 1 for Saugus’ boys soccer team was a success. The Sachems took care of Excel, 3-2, at Noyes Park in East Boston. All three goals were scored by star captain Isaac Cesco.
The Sachems will be captained by Cesco, Xavier Martinez, Abraham Costa, Noah Giron, and Massimo Pagliocco this fall.
“This year, our goal is to play more like a team and build our bench,” said coach Guillermo Sepulveda.
