ROUNDUP: Swampscott, Peabody golf fall short

Mark Aboyoun

August 28, 2024 by Mark Aboyoun

The Peabody Tanners battled hard on Wednesday afternoon, but couldn’t prevail over a talented Masconomet team. Masco took home the win on enemy soil 39.5 to 32.5

“It was a tough match with Masco,” Peabody head coach Peter Cronan said. “The team played really well.”

Despite the loss, Peabody had players who matched their opponent. Mason Clickstein tied his match 4.5 to 4.5 in addition to Jayden Cunningham and Anthony Modungo who both tied their matches at 4.5.

Joe Keka won his respective match 5.5 to 3.5 while Andrew Pinto won his six holes to three.

Peabody (0-2) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Salem at 4 p.m.

The Big Blue of Swampscott (1-1) was fresh off of a  66.5-5.5 win over Saugus, but couldn’t make it two in a row falling to Malden Catholic 39-36.

The winners for Swampscott were Will Brogna, Jack Smyth, and Luke McGonagle. Teammate Tyler Ostroff shot an impressive 37 on the day.

Swampscott will have to wait until next week to get back in the win column. The Big Blue travel to Winthrop on Thursday, September 5, for a 4 p.m. showdown with the Vikings.
