SWAMPSCOTT — Superintendent of Schools Pamela Angelakis announced a new logo and slogan as part of a district-wide rebranding effort that coincides with the opening of the town’s new elementary school.
More than five logos have been used to represent different schools in town or for the district as a whole over the years. District leaders partnered with Salem-based Sperling Interactive to craft the new emblem. According to Angelakis, the process began back in June 2023.
“We aimed to create a graphic representing both education in Swampscott and the beautiful community we call home,” Angelakis said in a press release. “Do you see the splash of ocean waves, a teacher with their students, an open book, or the shoreline?”
She added that the logo has “many interpretations.”
The slogan, “Navigating Paths to Success,” was chosen to represent what the district believes it stands for.
“The principals at every level were involved at first, and then it came down to a smaller group of the facilities director, tech director, myself, and the chair of the School Building Committee,” Angelakis said. “We went through so many renderings and so many iterations.”
School Committee member and School Building Committee Chair Suzanne Wright was heavily involved in the branding process.
“We decided it was the perfect time to make all the schools cohesive and sort of professional-looking,” Wright said.
Simultaneously, the School Committee has released a survey that it developed with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. Chair Glenn Paster emphasized that he and his fellow members are looking for responses from all demographics.
The survey will remain open through Sept. 15 and can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Swampscottsurvey2024
