The St. Mary’s (1-0) and Swampscott (0-1) field hockey teams squared off in their fall openers, and one goal was all it took.
The Spartans blanked the Big Blue, 1-0, with Addison Markiewicz scoring the lone goal off an assist from Ava Korisianos. Tabby Lopes picked up a shutout between the pipes.
“It was a good, close game,” said Swampscott coach Courtney Russo.
Victoria Piero and Lia Beatrice played well for Swampscott, according to Russo, while Lilah Caplan stood strong with seven saves.
