LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Center Water District is pleased to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the Glen Drive Water Treatment Plant will be held on Friday, Sept. 13 at 9:30 a.m. Local and state dignitaries and representatives from the project team will be in attendance to participate in this momentous occasion. Residents of the district are cordially invited to attend the ceremony, which will be held at the site of the new treatment plant.

Initial work will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at the site with the contractor, Daniel O’Connell & Sons. Initial work will include project mobilization of equipment and office temporary modulars, site clearing, and grading. It is anticipated the tree-clearing work will be completed by Sept. 13, with the goal of minimizing any disturbances to surrounding neighborhoods near the work site. The district apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause. The work is being completed in accordance with all state Department of Environmental Protection and local building-permitting and zoning-board review conditions. Weston & Sampson will be providing daily project management and CDM/Smith will continue to provide technical review and support during construction.

“This groundbreaking represents years of hard work and unwavering dedication from our commissioners, staff, and engineering team. We are excited to finally see the realization of all the hard work the district has done to get to this stage in the game. The culmination of several years in the making of district meetings, approval from district residents at the 2021 and 2023 Annual Meetings, and acceptance of Massachusetts SRF funds at a 0% interest rate all made this project possible. Lynnfield residents, especially those in the Glen Drive Station area, deserve this,” LCWD Director John Scenna said.

The new state-of-the-art facility will treat iron, manganese, and PFAS and will position the district with a stronger, more sustainable foundation for the district’s infrastructure while continuing to prioritize delivering safe potable water, while meeting and exceeding state standards, to the district’s customers, both today and in the future.

The district wishes to thank state Sen. Brendan Crighton, state Rep. and House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones Jr., the town’s Select Board, and Town Administrator Rob Dolan for their continued support.

“The start of construction on this project, and the interconnection project for MWRA water through Wakefield getting to bid, are two monumental steps for LCWD and took a huge team effort,” LCWD Chairman Steve Walsh said.

The district also wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the community for its patience and continued support during the last several years to make this project possible. The new treatment plant is anticipated to be completed at the end of 2025.
