NAHANT — Town Administrator Tony Barletta announced that two more of the 12 Coast Guard housing lots located along Castle Road, Goddard Drive, and Gardner Drive have been vacated, leaving only one that remains occupied.
Nahant purchased the Coast Guard housing land from the federal government in 2004. The town still owes $1.8 million, which is due by January, on a loan used to purchase the property, and plans to pay off the loan by selling the lots before the deadline. In 2022, the Board of Selectmen authorized Barletta to begin the process of evicting Coast Guard housing residents, with some offering resistance.
“We’ve had over 100 downloads of the RFP (request for proposal), we’ve received a number of questions regarding the RFP and the process,” Barletta said. “Hopefully, we have a successful procurement.”
The lots will be sold through a formal procurement process, with the first bid opening scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m.
“That’s the first of six that happen on a weekly basis from there on out,” Barletta said.
The six properties that are scheduled to go up for bid are located in the Bass Point area and near Johnson Elementary School and Kelley Greens Golf Course, with close proximity to open space and views of the Atlantic Ocean, a press release from the town stated.
Barletta added that he has been trying to have the lots posted on the real-estate online marketplace Zillow.
