The brooms were out Thursday evening. Both the Lynn Tech (2-3) and Marblehead (2-2) volleyball teams swept their opponents – on enemy hardwood, to boot.
Tech cruised to victory in set scores of 25-19, 25-2, and 25-8 against Minuteman. Better yet, the Tigers (2-3) pounced in versatile fashion.
They were led by Lia Morales (10 digs, 3 aces), Zahara Belizaire (8 assists, 5 digs, 3 aces, 3 kills, block), Kaylee Deschamps (5 aces, 5 kills, 2 blocks), Stephanie Hernandez (7 digs, 4 aces), Azya Castro (6 kills, 4 aces, 2 kills), Ana Godoy (4 aces, 3 digs), and Angelica Santini (7 digs).
As for Marblehead, it handled Winthrop in three sets of 25-9, 25-13, and 25-23. Greta Sachs led the way offensively with nine kills on 13 swings.
“Greta continues to lead the charge,” said Marblehead coach Killeen Miller.
Lilah Moniz added four kills on eight swings. From the service line, Marblehead dominated most of the game, racking up some big aces. Mari Modrynska and Megan Parkman each had six, while sophomore Erin Wilder added another five.

In set scores of 25-17, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-17, the host Spartans spiked their way to a 3-1 record on the young season. Sky Watson, Valeria Morillo, and Davin Clement were St. Mary’s top performers.
Masconomet 3
Swampscott 0
Masconomet squashed the Big Blue in set scores of 16-25, 12-25, and 18-25, but not without Swampscott positives. Standouts were Gillian Beaver (5 kills, 2 blocks) and Reese Schaiberger (18 assists, 10 service points).

Truth be told, it was a rollercoaster. Lynn English trailed, 2-0, just 20 minutes into the action before tying the score by halftime. Wilson Lopez did the honors with both goals.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the second half got away with them. Jose Licardie picked up an assist to round out the statsheet.
“In the second half, we got a red card, which opened up the game for them,” said English coach Valdrim Xhemajli. “We played really well – just unfortunate to go down a man.”

Lynn Classical conceded a corner-kick goal just two minutes into the game, but returned the favor in the 88th minute to salvage a tie. Abbie Deleon was credited with the goal for the Rams, who controlled possession in the second half, according to coach Eric Moreno.

Georgetown 1
The defending champion Pioneers started a tad slow in this one, but heated up with three second-half goals. Brendan Reilly led the barrage with two goals, while Rocco Scenna, Joel Anthony, and Tyler Maddox also slotted goals.
“We were up, 2-1, at the half and then we scored three in the second half, which was better,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe.

Georgetown 1
Lynnfield faced adversity, but edged Georgetown with three second-half goals. Bella Carroll went home with a hat-trick to lead the offense. She was followed by Emma Rose (goal, 2 assists), Kaylee Barrett (goal), and Bella Sykes (3 assists).
Coach Mark Vermont added that Giada Antidormi and Clara Caulfield played “excellent games in the midfield.”
“It was a great game,” Vermont said. “Georgetown is a good squad and made a lot of good plays.”

St. Mary’s upped its record to 3-1 after taking care of Stang on the road. Tabby Lopes registered another shutout between the pipes, while Camdyn Driscoll (2 goals), Ava Korisianos, and Audrey Zinck all found the back of the net.

For the Big Blue, all they needed was one sophomore-to-sophomore connection. Sofia Robelo-Puch scored off a corner with Lia Beatrice picking up the assist. Lilah Caplan impressed with five saves.

In a “very close match,” according to Marblehead coach Bob Green, his Magicians squeezed out a win against the Panthers. Marty Ryan, Tyler Forbes, Jacob Hershfield, James Bickell, and Max King won their matches with Forbes’ 34 earning him medalist. Will Macrina halved his match for Marblehead, which stands at 5-2.
Gloucester 49.5
Peabody 22.5
Peabody had its moments, but the Tanners were the catch of the day for the Gloucester Fishermen at Bass Rocks Golf Club. Peabody’s lone win came from senior captain Nate Palhares, who edged his opponent, 5-4. Senior Jayden Cunningham halved his match at 4.5 apiece.
