SAUGUS — At 5 a.m. Wednesday, crews arrived on Ballard Street after another water-main break, the third of its kind in the past month.
At a Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Manager Scott Crabtree highlighted in his report water issues occurring throughout the town. Ballard Street has been a continuous problem and is starting to raise concerns, he said.
According to Crabtree, the issue has been persistent, and the last break in the water-main was not able to be fixed properly, leading to this morning’s problem.
“So they’re actually in the next day or two are going to dig that back up, and I think try to use a different…like a full straight pipe…with the valve on each side,” Crabtree said in the report.
Crabtree also discussed a possible issue as to why the pipe keeps having problems. He mentioned that the pipe and the valve switch materials which could be the cause of the breaks. However, during the meeting, there wasn’t an exact conclusion on the problem.
This is occurring just after a water-main break on Talbot Street, a few minutes from Ballard Street. Ballard Street was also recently repaved about a week ago as part of Saugus’ continuous road paving plan.
