Swampscott chiropractor pleads guilty to assault

September 25, 2024 by Benjamin Pierce

SWAMPSCOTT — Resident Chiropractor Dr. Ilan Amar pled guilty in Essex County Superior Court to two counts of indecent assault and battery and three counts of open and gross lewdness. Dr. Amar has been sentenced to two and a half years in the House of Correction. He is slated to serve two years, with the remaining six months placed on probation.

Dr. Amar was first arrested in December of 2022 when he turned himself in on an arrest warrant. Three individuals came forward with allegations of inappropriate acts committed by Amar at his Humphrey Street practice titled “Touch of Health.”

Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker described Dr. Amar’s charges as reprehensible.

“Those seeking treatment in a healthcare setting are often at their most vulnerable, placing the utmost trust in the provider. The defendant chose to take advantage of and violate that trust,” Tucker said in a press release. “The victims in this case showed tremendous courage in coming forward to ensure the defendant would be unable to do this to anyone else.”

Tucker gave credit to retired Swampscott Detective Ted Delano and Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Nasson for their efforts in convicting Dr. Amar. The Swampscott Police Department echoed Tucker’s sentiments of gratitude.

Upon probation, Dr. Amar will be required to register as a sex offender, stay away from the three victims, and be subject to random drug testing. He will not be allowed to have a career in the field of healthcare.
