SALEM — Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker’s Office announced in a statement the 12-to-15-year sentence of Ivan Santos Lula, 56, of Lynn for several charges of child rape and assault.
Santos Lula was convicted by an Essex County jury on Aug. 16 on two counts of rape of a child with force, two counts of aggravated rape of a child due to age difference, and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14. He was indicted on the charges in February 2021.
After he finishes serving, Santos Lula will also be subject a three-year probation sentence with special conditions, including orders to stay away from the victim and family, register as a sex offender, undergo treatment for sex offenders, and avoid unsupervised contact with children under 18.
Salem Superior Court Judge Salim Tabit, who presided over the case, commended “the remarkable bravery” of the victim in coming forward, according to a press release from Tucker’s office.
The Commonwealth was represented by Kate MacDougall, chief of the office’s family crimes and sexual assault unit.
The defendant was represented by attorney Mark Brunswick Schmidt.
