SAUGUS — Police responded to a call at Saugus Middle High School that reported a fight had broken out during a Saugus Youth Football and Cheer game. According to information from Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli five to six people were involved in the fight.

Eyewitnesses said an argument occurred in the stands between a Salem and Saugus parent, the press release from the department stated. A woman was treated at the stadium but did not need to be transported to the hospital.

No arrests were made as the individuals involved in the fight dispersed upon the arrival of officers, according to the release. Police are not sure what started the fight, but the game was canceled along with all other games for the rest of the day.

Saugus Youth Football and Cheer put out a statement apologizing for what occurred at the game.

“I want to deeply apologize to all families and their athletes for the great disappointments of the day. The actions that occurred today are not to the standards we set as a league… We will continue to grow and earn your trust. I am deeply sorry and hope to continue to improve our league moving forward,” the statement said.

According to the Police Chief, there is no further information, and no one from the Police Department is available for interviews.
