SAUGUS — McDonald’s is holding a fundraising event throughout New England to help raise money for different schools throughout the six states. Two Saugus locations, 738 Broadway and 127 Broadway, will be involved in the fundraising.
While the 127 Broadway location will be helping Lynnfield Middle School and High School, the 738 Broadway location will be focusing on the Saugus Middle High School Girls Basketball team. The owner of both restaurants, Lindsay Wallin, is excited to be involved in this region-wide event.
“We are always looking for opportunities to support our communities in many different ways… This initiative lets us turn every sale through the McDonald’s app into a chance to help out our local teams – in Saugus and beyond – and that feels great,” Wallin said.
Joe Lowe, head coach of the team, also commented on the importance of the fundraiser, which Friends of The Saugus High School Girls Basketball is hosting.
“The McDonald’s fundraiser is another one we are conducting to help raise costs to get our team playing in the TD Garden. We are fortunate enough to be playing vs. Marblehead this year as part of the Andrew James Lawson Memorial Foundation event,” Lowe wrote in an email to The Item.
According to its website, the foundation is a nonprofit organization founded after Andrew Lawson died after a two-year battle with cancer. Lawson, who had Down Syndrome, benefited heavily from academic and athletic inclusion. The foundation’s mission is to help improve the lives of those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Andrew James Lawson Foundation Invitational is meant to be a tournament that features different local rivalries that come together to support inclusion at the TD Garden.
The McDonald’s event will raise funds to help alleviate the cost of the tickets the team needs to sell in order to play in the game.
The event will be on Oct. 10 and will run from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. In order to be involved in the funding, one has to order from the McDonalds app. Twenty percent of the proceeds will then go toward the team. The game will be taking place on Jan. 11, 2025.
