NAHANT — School Committee Chair Patricia Karras announced that Meredith Tibbo has emerged as the leading candidate to fill the open seat on the Committee.

In September, former member Liana DeLoid stepped down from the Committee after two years of service. Her replacement will be appointed through a joint vote between the Committee and the Board of Selectmen.

Tibbo is a retired Johnson School teacher who specialized in science and mathematics. Tibbo sent a letter of interest to the committee expressing her interest in the position. She also serves as an Assistant Harbormaster with her husband, Selectman and Harbormaster Rob Tibbo.

“I have the pleasure of knowing this individual… She taught fifth grade, one of my son’s absolute favorite teachers,” Karras said. “She is fantastic, she would be a welcome addition to this team.”

Superintendent of Schools Robert Liebow announced he is working to build a greenhouse on the school property for educational purposes. He said through a connection he has with a local foundation, he feels he could secure seed money to at least partially fund the establishment of the facility. However, he emphasized it is still in the “dream” stage.

“I’m hopeful that this Spring we will be able to put a greenhouse up on the property,” Liebow said. “It will be a real greenhouse that the kids are involved in. It gets to be part of their classwork to harvest and plant.”

Liebow did not wish to make the name of the foundation public as he continues to conduct business with the organization.
