SAUGUS — Dave & Buster’s started a fundraising campaign for local non-profits and contacted the Saugus River Watershed Council (SRWC) to join the campaign from October to Nov. 9.
“For a period of 30 days, SRWC supporters can purchase Dave & Buster’s Power Cards, and 50% of each sale is donated to our cause, which is to bring environmental education to our local schools,” Mary Lester, Director of the SRWC, said.
The Council believes that this is a great way for people to support them as the cold months get closer.
“This can be the perfect way for our community to enjoy a fun night out while giving back to Saugus River Watershed Council,” Lester said.
According to its website, the SRWC’s mission is “To protect and restore the natural resources of the Saugus River watershed.”
According to the site, the group is working to “improve water quality, restore river habitat and fisheries, educate students about the environment, and promote public access and enjoyment of the watershed.”
The SRWC is hoping to grow the amount of environmental education in the classroom, something they were able to do before COVID hit. Lester and other Council members believe that this subject is extremely important.
“Amidst the mounting environmental challenges, it’s crucial to emphasize the significance of environmental education…The forthcoming leaders, innovators, and citizens hold the key to a sustainable future,” Lester said.
She also detailed how educating the youth can help raise awareness, nurture understanding, and make them feel a certain amount of responsibility toward the environment.
“Environmental education goes beyond teaching facts; it’s about instilling a sense of duty and personal bond with nature…The goal is to cultivate a new generation of leaders who are ready to address environmental issues and lead the way to a sustainable future,” Lester said.
One can purchase a Power Card on the campaign website to help with fundraising.
