Swampscott’s girls team lost a close meet, 29-28, against Masconomet on Wednesday, but not without positives. Annabelle Averett finished first for the Big Blue, running a new course record (17:02). She was followed by Collette Heil in second, Theia Giantis in fifth, Anna Metaxatos in 10th, and Vera Conley in 11th.
The Big Blue boys beat Masconomet, 23-33. Anthony Colella finished first, also with a new course record (14:53). Simon Brown finished second and also beat the old course record of 15:05. Atticus Jakious placed third, followed by Miles Brown in sixth and Hunter Hersey in 11th.
Swampscott will travel to historic Franklin Park this Saturday to run in the 63rd Catholic Memorial Invitational against some of the top teams in the Northeast region.

BOYS SOCCER
Beverly 5
Peabody 2
The Tanners came out of the gates strong, scoring the first goal of the game thanks to a strike from Omar Mishal, assisted by Kacper Kowalczyk. The Panthers responded, however, and scored three unanswered goals before halftime to make it 3-1.
Mishal scored in the second half – this one from Jayden Lopez – to cut it to a two-goal deficit. But unfortunately for Peabody, the gap was too big and Beverly walked away with the road win.
Marblehead 4
Danvers 2
The Magicians officially clinched a postseason spot with a road win against the Falcons. Bubacar Jallow, Dylan Gilmore, David Magen, and Ilan Druker all scored for Marblehead. Truth be told, Druker couldn’t be contained, as he provided two assists as well.
GIRLS SOCCER
Swampscott 3
Salem 0
Big Blue, big-time performance from Greta Siefken (2 goals, assist), who was involved in all three of Swampscott’s goals. Lyla Rogers scored the other goal and Jane Raymond finished with an assist.
Peabody 1
Beverly 1
After conceding an early goal in the second half, the Tanners didn’t quit and preserved a tie against the Panthers. Peabody’s Gabby Gosselin scored off a feed from Ally Bettencourt.
“Outstanding game from Connie Patturelli in the midfield and Madi Barrett played well on defense,” said Peabody coach Andrew Douglass. “Alessandra Forgione came up huge for us in net.”
FIELD HOCKEY
Lynnfield 1
Essex Tech 0
The Pioneers escaped Essex Tech in a Cape Ann League thriller that saw Izzy Fiorentino tuck the game-winning goal from Lily Alves and Gia Marotta just two minutes into the first quarter.
It was all the No. 5 Pioneers needed to secure a victory against a Division 1, highly-skilled Essex Tech team that ranks No. 24. Goalkeeper Lauren Macdonald (6 saves) stood strong between the pipes.
“Defensively, Chloe Gromko stayed poised, executing with some big stops – not only in the backfield, but also, breaking up two Essex Tech corners as the flier on the defensive corner unit,” said Lynnfield coach Kerri Doherty. “Alves, in typical fashion, was a force in the backfield, making some clutch clears out to the side with under two minutes remaining to preserve the win.”
VOLLEYBALL
Lynn Classical 3
Chelsea 0
No home turf, no problem for the Rams, who swept Chelsea in scores of 25-6, 25-15, and 25-18. The seniors led the way for Lynn Classical as both Amanda Huges (9 kills, 7 digs, ace) and Mia Pento (16 digs, 2 aces, assist) proved to be too much.
The Rams also received contributions from Brooke Braswell (9 service aces, 3 digs, 7 kills) and Emma Chevalier (25 assists, 2 kills, 3 aces.)
“The girls played an excellent, all-around match and we got contributions up and down the lineup. It was a big win for us. That one guarantees us at least a share of the Greater Boston League title,” said Classical coach Chris LeBlanc. “It was also a good way to head into our big Friday match at Burlington. They are 17th in the D2 power rankings and will be a comparable test to Winchester a few weeks ago.”
Swampscott 3
Saugus 1
Swampscott earned the win on Senior Night (25-17, 25-19, 26-28, 25-15) over the Sachems. Mia Groom (4 kills), Yanielis Pizarro (4 kills), Liora Ragozin (3 kills), and Oona Williams (10 digs) all played well.

In set scores of 25-16, 17-25, 25-9, and 25-10, the Spartans took down KIPP behind strong performances from Valeria Morillo (5 kills, 10 assists, 9 service points) and Ava Kidd.
Lynn Tech 3
