LYNN — A memorial scholarship program is being established in the name of Lynn veteran Lance Corporal (LCpl) Bradley J. Campus, who served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC).
The scholarship program will be offered to students in their senior year of high school who will attend a state or nationally accredited college or university in the fall of 2025, according to a press release.
Scholarships will be awarded to eligible students from all Lynn public high schools based on academic merit, awards and recognitions, extracurricular and community service activities, and an original essay of no more than 500 words answering the question: “What is the significance of the American flag and what does it mean to you?”
The LCpl Bradley Campus Memorial Scholarship Committee, which will administer the scholarships, will award three scholarships in 2025, each in the amount of $1,000.
Lance Corporal Bradley J. Campus was born in Lynn on Feb. 15, 1962, and attended Lynn English High School.
After graduating, Campus enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed overseas.
On Oct. 23, 1983, Bradley was killed in a bombing in Beirut when suicide bombers drove a truck into the Marine barracks. He was one of 241 service members who died that day.
Scholarship applications, along with all supporting documentation (a completed cover sheet, essay, year-to-date senior high school transcript, junior high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation from a teacher or coach), must be received by email at [email protected] or by hard copy at The LCpl Bradley J. Campus Memorial Scholarship Committee by Friday, March 28, 2025, by 5 p.m.
The guidance departments of awarded students will be notified by May 9, 2025.
