We are delighted to announce another Lynn centenarian.
Edith M Henderson Williams was born in Norway Maine on Oct. 26, 1924 and graduated from Norway High School in 1942. She went on to Bentley Junior College in Worcester MA to study finance and accounting when the all male school admitted women to the college. She moved to Lynn in 1943 to live with her sister at The Lynn Home for Young Women, a rooming house for young single women in Washington Square. She took an administrative assistant job at the GE where she later met her future husband, Joseph Williams. At the time they had live music and ballroom dancing during their lunch hour in the Cafeteria.
Edie loves to dance. She and her husband Joe got married at St Margaret’s Church in Saugus on Nov 4 1950. They eventually settled in Veteran’s Village in Lynn where Edie has continued to reside for over 70 years. They had 2 children. Paul lives in Greenville Maine and Jean lives in Western Massachusetts. She has 3 granddaughters, and 4 great grandchildren. She was proficient in fiber arts and loves singing. She performed with the Concert Singers of Greater Lynn for several decades and served as choir director at the former Central Congregational Church of Lynn. Edie will be joined by numerous family members of 4 generations this weekend to celebrate her 100th Birthday along with many dear friends old and new who cherish their time with her.
