LTTE: A vote for Duff for Register of Deeds

To the editor

Aside from the Presidential race, there doesn’t seem to be too many contested races this year. However, the Register of Deeds and Clerk of Courts are both on the ballot Nov. 5, and I want to share a little about my experience with one of the Candidates.

I first met Eileen Duff back in February of this year. A mutual friend connected us and told me that Eileen had never represented Saugus before because it was outside of her Governor’s Council district but wanted to get to know the community. We had breakfast at the Hammersmith a few weeks later, and Eileen’s passion for public service came through immediately.

The Registry of Deeds often has quieter elections when compared to state representatives or senators, as they don’t typically hold debates and big support demonstrations. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure what the position entailed, but Eileen was beyond enthusiastic. The Registry of Deeds organizes and maintains property records and associated documents like property transactions, liens, land surveys, and mortgages. Each document is scanned, copied and filed away. By definition, the Registry needs to be organized, and I believe Eileen Duff is that person.

Eileen has been on the Governor’s Council since 2013, where, amongst other duties, she was responsible for evaluating and appointing judges; in addition, she has been a Realtor for decades.

These experiences and her knowledge of the court system, real estate and public policy make her an excellent fit for the Registry of Deeds. I have worked on many campaigns over the years, but very few candidates can match the dedication and devotion that Eileen Duff has for Essex County and a lifelong passion for public service that I know she will bring to the Registry of Deeds.

I ask that you Vote for Eileen Duff for Register of Deeds this coming Election Day, Nov. 5.

Andrew Whitcomb

Saugus Resident
