SWAMPSCOTT — The Town Clerk’s Office was recognized for mailing out 100 percent of ballots to residents in a timely manner, ahead of the nationwide election.
Earlier this month, Election Specialist Kelly Emmons of the Secretary of State’s Voter Registry Information System commended the town for being well above the state average of 83 percent.
Town Clerk Jared LaLiberte expressed gratitude toward 14 individuals who volunteered time to help send out the ballots.
“We put in roughly 80 work hours to get that all done in one day,” LaLiberte said. “I’m really grateful for the people of Swampscott who came out and helped. It made this manageable.”
According to LaLiberte, his office has sent out a total of 4,129 ballots, and has had 2,000 completed ballots sent back. In addition, approximately 260 community members have voted in-person thus far, which began this past Saturday.
“We’ve also had 61 ballots for residents formerly living in Swampscott or students and other people living overseas,” LaLiberte said.
Select Board Chair MaryEllen Fletcher said she was glad to see the community come together and help create democracy on a local level.
“In light of all of the polarization and partisanship on the national level, it’s comforting to know that in Swampscott we’ve got an amazing department taking care of everything and keeping the drama out of it,” Fletcher said.
