LYNN — The fire department has been working with the Salem Fire Department to fight a “large-scale” brush fire in the woods in the Fay Estate neighborhood, the Lynn FD said in a Facebook post.
The FD said Lynn joined the Salem FD to combat the fire around 10 p.m. Saturday night and worked overnight. They were still on the scene all day Sunday, as the brush fire is an ongoing incident.
“Overnight, this fire increased in size and extended into the city of Lynn into the Fay’s Estate neighborhood, behind Apple Hill Lane, Belleaire Avenue, and Scranton Way,” the FD said in a Facebook post.
Dry conditions across the Commonwealth have caused an increase in brush fires, the FD said. The fire in Lynn has been contained and the department is working to put out any smoldering roots and brush.
The FD reminds residents to safely dispose of cigarettes and there is no open burning permitted in the city.
The FD especially advises anyone who lives near the area or near woods to remain aware and take precautions to avoid brush fires.
