SAUGUS — The North Shore Car Show and Cruises held its fourth annual trunk or treat on Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Before 2023, the trunk or treat night was hosted at Fuddruckers before having to make a move. The Blessed Sacrament offered to have the event in their parking lot, and it has been there ever since
Domenic Montano and Guy Moley have been planning and running the event since it started in 2020, and both believe they’ll continue to hold it at the church for as long as they can.
“The church enjoys it, and we love doing it. As long as we can do it and we’re healthy enough to do it, we’ll be here,” Montano said.
There were plenty of fun trunks and a decent flow of kids coming in and out.
“Every year, it fluctuates. Last year was a lot busier, but this is nothing to be ashamed about. I would say there’s about 1,000 kids a year,” he said.
Moley also agreed the event gets a great turnout every single year. The two men also agreed events like this help keep kids safe and allow parents to be more relaxed.
“The parents, kids, and everyone can have a good time and not have to worry about walking around unlit neighborhoods. Everyone can be safe here,” Montano said.
Multiple businesses volunteered their trunks for the event, including Route 1 South’s McDonalds, Next Evolution Jeep Club, Saugus Housing Authority, and Junkster Bags.
Lindsey Wallin, the owner and operator of Saugus’ McDonalds, decorated her first trunk this year for the event with the help of her family.
The group even gave out gummy burgers, fries, and cokes, Wallin said.
“We love to get involved. This is a really fun event, and we’ll definitely do it again,” she said.
The Boston Batman also made an appearance, exciting many kids and posing for photographs. The Boston Batman has made multiple appearances for the group’s trunk or treat, as well as other car show events.
“I’m always excited to be here… I do this, the Cars and Cops Car Show, and Moms Cancer Fighting Angel’s Car Show,” he said.
However, he did say the only problem with the event was it was still light out, and bats are nocturnal, so it’s a bit of a problem for him.
When asked for his name, he simply responded: “Boston Batman.”
The event went from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and was full of kids going from trunk to trunk for candy and pictures with all the great decorations.
