LYNN — Sean Reid has received additional endorsements in his campaign for State Representative of the 11th Essex District, covering West Lynn and Nahant, just ahead of election day this upcoming Tuesday.
The School Committee Member has received backing from two labor coalitions, the North Shore Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the North Shore Building Trades, who represent labor interests and workers’ rights across the region.
“Sean shares the labor movement’s commitment to creating an economy that works for working people,” said MA AFL-CIO President Chrissy Lynch. “He is a strong ally in our efforts to grow the middle class with good union jobs that provide fair pay, strong benefits, retirement security, and a voice at work.”
AFT Massachusetts, which includes the Lynn Teachers Union (LTU) local, has also endorsed Reid, highlighting his continued advocacy for our students, teachers, and schools.
“We are so very pleased that our state affiliate AFT Massachusetts has endorsed Committee member Sean Reid,” said Sheila O’Neil, LTU President. “Sean has been a terrific partner in our fight for more school funding, fighting charter school expansion, and very supportive of Yes on 2 ballot question. We can’t wait to continue to work with him in his new role.”
Reid has also received the support of three SEIU locals: 509, 1199, and 32BJ. These unions represent workers across a wide range of sectors throughout Massahusetts.
“In his career working on legislative issues, Sean has demonstrated, including in the campaign for driver’s license reform, that he strongly supports the rights of working people, immigrants, and all those struggling at the margins,” said Roxana Rivera, 32BJ SEIU Assistant to the President and head of the union in Massachusetts.
Planned Parenthood and Reproductive Equity Now have additionally endorsed Reid’s campaign, citing his commitment to reproductive health and rights.
“While the right to abortion, contraception, IVF, and all forms of reproductive health care are facing existential threats on the national stage, state legislatures have the opportunity and obligation to act as a firewall,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, President of Reproductive Equity Now. “[We are] proud to endorse an impressive slate of candidates who are ready to fight for reproductive equity and ensure that Massachusetts remains a beacon for abortion access in a post-Roe world.”
The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) has also announced its endorsement, recognizing Reid’s support for environmental and sustainability efforts.
“Sean’s climate-focused platform makes him the ideal candidate to serve as the 11th Essex’s State Representative” said Casey Bowers, Executive Director of the ELM Action Fund. “A strong advocate for coastal restoration and resiliency, Sean understands what needs to be done in order to protect his district from the impacts of climate change and sea level rise”
After his primary victory in September, Reid is set to replace retiring Representative Peter Capano. “Throughout this campaign, it has been such an honor to receive support from leading organizations on a wide range of issues” said Reid. “With our shared values, vision, and priorities, I have no doubt that we will row in the same direction to make real improvements across the district.”
