Marblehead VFW to host benefit for veterans center

MARBLEHEAD — The Marblehead VFW Post 2005 will host a fundraising event on Nov. 9, 2024, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. to benefit the New England Center and Home for Veterans. The event is a collaboration initiated by Susanne MaCinnis and Josh Hopkins, who approached VFW Commander Ronny Knight this past summer about organizing the event.

“We felt it was a great opportunity to expand our charity work, both within and outside the community,” said Knight. “What better way to do that than during Veterans Day weekend?”

Knight emphasized the VFW’s mission to serve veterans and the broader community, saying, “Our platform as a Post is to better serve veterans and charitable organizations, both veteran-related and not, to make a positive impact. Both Sue and Josh should be commended for their efforts toward that goal. These two outstanding citizens approached us to make this contribution.”

The event will feature the Downtown Rhythm Band, and admission is free. The benefit is collecting “high-end need items” for veterans in need, including new pillows, laundry bags, twin bedding, blankets, towels, shower shoes, bras, jeans, belts, sneakers, and deodorant. The VFW will also accept cash donations to purchase these items.

“The Post has hosted other successful events, such as Company 2 Heroes, the Marblehead Food Pantry, and the Todd Norman Scholarship Fund,” Knight said. “We want the community to know that the local VFW is the place to be if you want to make an impact and support a worthy cause.”

Knight concluded, “What better way to enjoy Veterans Day weekend than to come out, enjoy some great music, and make a difference for those who have defended our freedom?”
