SWAMPSCOTT— Incumbent Tom Driscoll (D-Swampscott) pulled a swift victory in the Essex County clerk race against challengers Todd Angilly (U-Lynnfield) and Doris Rodriguez (I-Lawrence).
This will be Driscoll’s fifth six-year term in the role. According to the latest election results for Swampscott, Driscoll received a total number of 6,453 votes. Unenrolled challenger Angilly received 1,278, and Rodriguez, who ran as Independent, racked in 709 votes.
“I want to extend my sincerest thanks to the voters of Essex County for their continued support and trust. I look forward to continuing in my role as their Clerk of Courts as we fight for fairness, transparency, and justice,” Driscoll said in a statement after his victory.
Throughout Essex County, Driscoll gathered roughly 700,000 votes.
Driscoll has served as Essex County Clerk of Courts since 2001. He graduated from Bates College with a degree in political science, and went on to earn a J.D. (Juris Doctor) from the New England School of Law. After pursuing an education, Driscoll worked as Deputy Sheriff and Corrections Officer within the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.
“Going forward, the biggest thing is to continue the good work that my office has done,” Driscoll said. “With an efficient office and real expertise in the courtroom, it’s my hope that all the different things that we’ve put into place will continue throughout my next term.”
In addition to volunteering to coach numerous youth sports teams in Swampscott, Driscoll also served on the Board of Select Board and Swampscott Contributory Retirement Board, marking an extensive and multi-pronged career with the town.
Driscoll reflected on the journey back into office. “I am grateful for the volunteers and activists who made tonight possible, and I also want to thank my opponents, Todd Angilly and Doris Rodriguez. Running for office is incredibly difficult, and I commend them for their willingness to serve their community and talk about the issues that matter. I wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”
