The magic was on display at SSG Christopher N. Piper Field, with No. 6 Marblehead racing past No. 11 Norwood, 42-6, in the Division 4 state tournament to advance to the round of 8 against No. 3 Grafton (TBD).
For coach Jim Rudloff’s Magicians, they got to work early. Yandel Garcia danced down the right sideline for a rushing score and the game’s first touchdown. Brady Selvais muscled his way into the endzone for another touchdown on the ground (14-0).
Garcia rolled into the promised land in the second quarter. The next thing you knew, the hosts had built a 21-6 halftime cushion in front of the home faithful.
From there, Finn Gallup looked to his left and threw a 10-yard strike to Selvais, who scored again in the third quarter. Add two quarterback-keeper touchdowns in the second half, courtesy of Colt Wales and Gallup, and that was all she wrote.
Lynnfield 45
Dennis-Yarmouth 20
For the fans at Pioneer Stadium, this one was over in a hurry. No. 6 Lynnfield shot out to a 13-0 lead against No. 11 Dennis-Yarmouth after one quarter of play, and it was all uphill from there.
A seemingly effortless one-play drive got things started. Tyler Adamo (6 TD) found Madux Iovinelli – a player all over the opening quarter – down the right sideline for an 80-yard touchdown. After an Iovinelli interception on the defensive end, he scored another first-quarter touchdown on a pitch from Adamo.
Adamo spotted Jesse Dorman and Iovinelli for touchdowns in the second quarter. In the blink of an eye, it was 25-7 by halftime.
The big play continued to haunt Dennis-Yarmouth. Adamo and Dorman connected for an 83-yard touchdown before Jared Bernabei rushed for another. Lucas Deraps caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Adamo to wrap up the third quarter (45-14).
Winchester 35
Peabody 27
The No. 11 Tanners held a fourth-quarter lead, but an 84-yard kickoff return touchdown gave No. 6 Winchester a late 28-27 advantage. Peabody’s offense had about three minutes to respond, but threw an interception.
As for how Tanners took their lead in the fourth, look no further than Gabe Santos, who ran one in from 4 yards out (27-21). Santos finished with three touchdowns, while Tyler Rappold found the endzone in the second half.
Peabody wrapped up at 4-5 ahead of its Turkey Day meeting with Saugus.
Norton 35
Bishop Fenwick 14
No home-field advantage, no problem for No. 12 Norton, which took care of business at Donaldson Stadium to take down the No. 5 Crusaders. Fenwick’s Tyler Connolly scored a rushing touchdown from a yard out in the second half, while Dylan Patturelli did the scoring honors in the first half on a 10-yard rush, but that was all she wrote on the home-team scoreboard.
St. John’s Prep 42
Attleborough 0
No. 16 Attleborough High made the trip to Glatz Field in Danvers to take on top-ranked St. John’s Prep, but returned home massively empty-handed. Jordan Toribio of the Eagles scored three touchdowns, while star quarterback Christopher Vargas threw for a pair of scores.
