Saugus gives Crabtree two retroactive pay increases

November 8, 2024 by Elizabeth Della Piana

SAUGUS — Thursday, Nov. 7, the Board of Selectmen went into executive session to negotiate Town Manager Scott Crabtree’s non-union contract.

Crabtree became Saugus’ longest-serving Town Manager with more than a decade under his belt. He has received praise in the past from Selectmen members and continues to sit as Town Manager.

After negotiating in the executive session, the Selectmen moved to an open session to vote on what was discussed and both votes were a unanimous yes decision.

According to Chair Debra Panetta, “Our board met earlier in both executive session, and then we came back to open session. Two votes were taken in open session. First, we, the board, took a vote to give our town Manager a 4 ½% retroactive increase beginning in August 2023. The second vote was to give the Town Manager a retroactive increase of 2 ½% retroactive increase starting August 2024.”

According to Connect Pay, “A retroactive pay increase…is a compensation adjustment that gives employees a higher salary or wage for work they’ve already completed.”

Panetta went on to say that the increases were based on the goals and objectives that were set by the Board of Selectmen.
