You know what I’ve been thinking? The game could’ve ended after the first quarter, and Madux Iovinelli still would’ve been in consideration for Athlete of the Week.
The Lynnfield football star caught two touchdowns and snagged an interception in the first quarter of the No. 6 Pioneers’ game against No. 11 Dennis-Yarmouth. Lynnfield won Friday’s matchup with ease, 45-20.
Better yet, he did it in style. Iovinelli hauled in an 80-yard bomb from quarterback Tyler Adamo to start the game. After an ensuing interception from Iovinelli, he followed it up with a 5-yard pitch-and-catch score from Adamo.
In the second quarter, Iovinelli showed he could operate in close quarters with a 1-yard touchdown grab. He finished with six receptions for 141 yards and three touchdowns to go with plenty of havoc-wreaking on the defensive end.
Next up for the Pioneers is a road game against No. 3 Fairhaven this Friday. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. with a trip to Division 6 semifinals on the line.
Do-it-all Iovinelli, a senior, will study and play Division 1 baseball at High Point University next fall.
Madux, good week.
