LTTE: Seth Moulton’s remarks misinterpreted

To the editor

November 13, 2024 by To the editor

To the editor:

I found it interesting how prominently the Item published a variety of critical opinions on our Representative Seth Moulton’s comment in his New York Times interview. If I have it correct, he said, in part, “I have two girls. I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete.”

Perhaps he was referring to cases like that of a high school volleyball player in North Carolina who suffered a concussion after being spiked in the face by a transgender athlete, resulting in neck injury, impaired vision, partial paralysis on her right side, constant headaches, as well as anxiety and depression.

May I suggest that everyone simply calm down? Seth Moulton has been doing a great job for our region, and in my opinion, he was not denigrating transgender youth or making a political statement. Rather, he was suggesting that we need to approach this issue with an open mind and work toward a reasonable solution to protect the most vulnerable from the physical risks of males competing in women’s sports.

Perhaps the Item will also prominently display opinions of those who support Moulton’s remarks.
